News

SPAY DAY USA is a national program started by the Doris Day Animal League in 1995 to raise awareness of the need to spay and neuter to stop the killing of healthy, homeless pets. Every February rescues all over the USA try to raise money for their spay/neuter assistance programs, spay & neuter as many cats and dogs as possible, and hand out brochures to try to educate the public about the pet overpopulation problem and that SPAY/NEUTER IS THE SOLUTION. .In 2007, HSUS took over administering SPAY DAY USA. This year they are having an ON-LINE Pet Photo Contest.

The prizes are bigger and better for the contestants and several grants are available to the registered event organizers....like Cajun Animal Aid.

This is my 4th or 5th year to be the Registered Event Organizer for the Lafayette area and I NEED HELP. I have allied with CAJUN ANIMAL AID to be eligible for grants to put into our A SNAP. I have 100 posters to put up, 1000 brochures to hand out. Six dozen T-shirts to sell, etc. This helps all the animal welfare and rescue groups in our area. Until the end of Feb you will find me at PETsMART on Saturdays 11 to 3, and Sundays 1 to 4, with all the T-shirts, posters and brochures.

We got a Grant from HSUS/Spay Day 2008, for $751.93. I put that money into PAAW's Spay/Neuter Assistance Program.

PAAW will pay 1/2 of a normal S/N procedure up to $55. at the vet of your choice when there is money in the S/NAP. Call Lynne Gross or daughter, Rae Gross, at 337-856-6628 for more information.

Who We Are

ARRC is one person... banging her head on the wall it seems. The problem is getting all the animal welfare groups to WORK TOGETHER on anything. As of 7/18/08 I have 17 dogs left to move into loving forever homes or to other rescue groups in other states.

Do you have a stray cat problem in your neighborhood? Hey, rather than call Animal Control to come get them...(most likely they will be gassed) go on-line and check out http://www.alleycat.org They have programs to help the whole neighborhood and the cats, too.

Lafayette also has a TNR group called Wildcat Foundation...337-266-6085. They TRAP/NEUTER/RETURN cats and teach you how to control your cat colony, but they can't do it all alone...

For tame cats go to Dr.Miller in Eunice, LA. He charges $35 to neuter boy cats....boys can go just as soon as you feel BOTH BERRIES. Dr.Miller won't do baby girls until they are 5 to 6 months old. He charges $45. In heat cats are $52. plus Clavamox , $15.05. Pregnant, up to 4 weeks only, $59. plus Clavamox $15.05. Phone 337-457-4136 for more information.

CatSNIP is my $5. per animal (for GAS) transport service to Eunice.to get cats (dogs are welcome, too) spayed or neutered ( here's a help to remember the difference between spay and neuter...boys have nuts and you neuter nuts....and spay females. Never use the term SPADED...that's for gardens :-). Call me to get on the waiting list...when I get 8 to 12 animals on the list I call you, load up EARLY on a Thursday morning and take them to Dr.Miller. I pick them up again, before 5 P.M. and you come and get them when I return to Lafayette. In SPECIAL cases I will pick up and deliver to your home.

Do you LOVE Bunnies? Around Easter there is a Program called "MAKE MINE CHOCOLATE". I wear the T-Shirt and pins, download and print out brochures and care sheets and take them everywhere they sell BUNNIES...... wanna help? http://www.makeminechocolate.org/

How do you feel about dogs who live 24/7 on chains? Valentines Day has passed, but you could be ready for next year... http://www.dogsdeservebetter.com/home.html

How do you feel about PIT BULL FIGHTING? The HSUS has a $5000. reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a dogfighter. ARRC has posters, brochures, cards to hand out to those interested, and stickers. Call 202-452-1100 for details.

Several concerned citizens have formed a coalition to address the GASSING of animals at Animal Control...it is NOT HUMANE EUTHANAZIA. It is OUTDATED and BARBARIC. OLA AYERS is charing our roundtable at present and it is open to anyone who has time. Call 337-280-5134 for more information.

After volunteering with several animal rescue and welfare groups for several years it became apparent that such a center as ARRC was needed to open communications between all these groups and bring us all together in our common goals of saving from death, healthy, homeless cats, dogs, rabbits, etc.
